Gareth Johnson

Gareth Johnson – University of Strathclyde


Gareth is a Research Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. He is geologist with expertise in energy geosciences and CO2 removal. Gareth works at the interface of academia, industry and policy and take a systems engineering approach to understanding the role of the subsurface in the energy transition and in meeting net zero targets. Recent projects include working on Direct Air Capture of CO2 in Iceland and the use of geothermal heat from coal mines for bio-plastics production. Gareth works closely with the Geological Society of London where he is Chair of the Decarbonisation Working Group.
